Harshvardhan pips Goel for Delhi Chief Ministerial post

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to project Dr Harshvardhan as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Delhi Assembly elections. This decision comes after much deliberation within the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The BJP think tank was of the view that party was finding itself in a difficult spot over the projection of Vijay Goel as its chief ministerial face.
The unblimished image of Harshvardhan tilted the balance in his favour, said a party insider. It may be recalled that eight months ago in February, Vijay Goel was appointed the Delhi unit chief of the BJP but his tenure was mirred with infighting resulting in party’s failure to project itself as a clear alternative to the ruling despansation.
After its initial decision of experimenting with Goel, the BJP seems to have narrowed down its choice on Harshvardhan who certainly carries a clean image. “Under present circumstances where the Aam Admi Party is gunning for Sheila Dixit’s head for her being allegdely neck deep in corruption, the image factor becomes all the more crucial and here Harshvardhan emerged as the dark horse and a clear winner,” said a party functionary pleading anonymity.
A formal declaration to anoint Harshvardhan will be made in the next few days, said sources.
